Volunteers put together hygiene kits for St. Pat’s Food Pantry
Brookhaven Free Library hosted a Community Clean Up.
Patrons at Cold Spring Harbor created items to be donated to local community organizations.
Children made animal portraits for the animal shelter. Tweens made pillows for the animal shelter. Teens volunteered to help distribute costumes at our Halloween Costume Drive.
Patrons created adopt Me Portraits for the local animal shelter with Theresa Maritato.
Farmingdale held a food and crayon drive during their fandom fest.
Great Neck ran on an going event of having teens make cards for hospitalized kids. They also painted a mural that will be donated to a hospital.
Teens made caps for newborns, and patrons donated supplies for babies for a community drive.
Adults created Fidget Quilts, which are quilts that have various tactile features sewn on, such as zippers, ribbons for tying/braiding, buttons, etc. These are meant for dementia patients to help keep their hands occupied, thereby making them feel calmer.
Teen Volunteers decorated reusable grocery tote bags with a children’s book theme (and included the book inside) to be donated to Long Island Cares so families who are receiving food also get a book with their food, and reusable tote bag for times they go to a grocery store so they don’t have to pay the 5 cents charge.
Children of all ages made decorative bookmarks to promote libraries and reading. The bookmarks were distributed to community groups, seniors, vets, and more.
Patrons were creating quilt squares for Operation Safe and Warm quilt initiative, decorating bags containing a craft for local children’s hospital, and creating book marks for a local nursing home at Jericho Public Library.
At Levittown Public Library patrons decorated quilt squares for Operation Safe and Warm, collected clothes and fabric for RewareAble, donated toiletries for The Mary Brennan Inn, and food donations for St. Bernard’s Social Ministry Pantry.
Malverne Public Library hosted a Bideawee Pet Supply Drive and made toys for shelter cats. Take a look at the bin and car full of donations!
Children colored cards and decorated leaves for residents at Highfield Gardens Care Center, a local nursing home. Library patrons brought food donations for local organization Neil’s Wheels, which was collecting for Long Island Cares.
Merrick Library held a kids’ movie party to benefit The Book Fairies.
Volunteers decorated fabric squares to be sewn into Long Island’s largest quilt.
Patrons made cards for veterans.
The library is collected bedding and toys for dogs and cats waiting to be adopted at Bideawee.
The library hosted a number of ways for patrons to give back to their community.
Patrons at Rockville Centre Public Library assembled birthday kits for families in need.
Teen volunteers cleaned up Lake Ronkonkoma.
The library held a Community Breakfast, Teen Car Wash, Pet Adoption Fair, Food Drive, and Children’s Volunteer Stations. There was even an R2D2 created out of donated canned goods!
Teens at Shelter Rock Library made snack bags and tic-tac-toe games for families at the Ronald McDonald House.
Teens made cards for Operation Gratitude.
Patrons made no-sew blankets for Project Linus. Project Linus provides blankets to kids in shelters and in hospitals.
Teens at Syosset Public Library created tie dye tote bags and filled them with non-perishable food items for food banks throughout Long Island. Patrons in the Children’s Room at Syosset also Gave Back: the children assembled craft kits for hospitalized children and wrote notes of encouragement and support!
Staff and volunteers at Wantagh Public Library braved the rain to do clean up at the Twin Lakes Preserve.
