Clark Memorial Library<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\n\nStarting on October 13th there will be Pet Food Drive for 2 weeks with teen volunteers delivering the food to local pet shelters. To start things off that Saturay teens can attend a dog biscuit program and Children’s dog toy community service programs.\n\nFloyd Memorial Library<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\n\nHalf Hollow Hills Community Library<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\n\nCreate sock buddies to be donated to Operation Gratitude.\n\nHampton Bays Public Library<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\n\nThe Adult Reference Department will be doing a non-perishable food drive.\n\nThe Teen Department will be participating in random acts of kindness (like positive message cards to strangers), and creating cards for kids at St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.\n\nThe Hampton Library at Bridghampton<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\n\nChildren:\nThe Great Give Back: Beach Clean Up Bingo Saturday, October 13 at 9:30 am\nWe are very fortunate to have an amazing beach as a part of our community. Please bring a donation item(s) to add to the bags. (1 hour service credit) *Registration is required. Hauppauge Library cardholders get first priority. Out-of-district patrons will be added to a wait-list and invited to attend if there is room.\n\nHuntington Public Library<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\n\nDuring the month of October the library will be collecting NEW socks for people in shelters and\/or veteran homes. The socks can be for children or adults. There will be collection boxes in both of our buildings. Visit Youth & Parent Services to make craft packets for children in Huntington Hospital.\n\nIslip Public Library<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\n\nStop into the Children\u2019s Room and write a thank you note to a person deserving of gratitude \u2013 a family member, neighbor, teacher, or someone else – maybe it was for a small thing, or perhaps a large sacrifice. Give back with a special thank you. This activity is for everyone. The children\u2019s department has been collecting new school supplies since September 1, with the final day of collection planned for The Great Give Back on 10\/13. \u00a0Once they have all the supplies, they will assemble “Give Back\u201d bags and bring them to the local food pantry.Also on 10\/13 “The Wagner Dialogues: What keeps a Democracy Vibrant” a free lecture featuring two patrons who are \u201cGiving Back\u201d to the community the library serves\u2014John Avlon, CNN political analyst and former editor of the Daily Beast, and Sally Susman,\u00a0a former trustee of LOC, presidential appointee in the Clinton Administration, and National Finance Committee member for President Obama and Secretary Hillary Clinton. They will discuss politics in the lead-up to the mid-term election from opposite sides of center.\n\nLindenhurst Memorial Library<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\n
The library will be at Babylon Town Hall Park from 10-1 for A Walk in the Park, an event to raise awareness for those affected by Alzheimer’s Disease. Come down and check it out. Donations needed: Beans or canned vegetables, canned fruit, cereal, oatmeal, pasta baby wipes, soap, shampoo, conditioner, toilet paper, tissues, diapers, hand sanitizer, Clorox wipes, hand lotion, disinfectant spray.\n\nQuogue Library<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\n\nThe library is collecting bedding and toys for dogs and cats waiting to be adopted at Bideawee.\n\nRiverhead Free Library<\/strong><\/a><\/span>\n\nHere are a number of ways to give back at the library:\n\n-Kent and North Fork Animal Welfare League will be at thelibrary with dogs and cats that are looking for their forever homes! Pet food donations are greatly appreciated!\n\n-Doctors Without Borders: Donate any gently used coats\n\n-Warm Feet Happy Hearts Sock Drive: Donate new socks for those in need at Maureen\u2019s Haven\n\n-Make no bake dog treats that will be donated to a local animal shelter\n\n-Yellow Dot Program: Sponsored by the Sheriff\u2019s Office, free kits are available, designed to help first responders provide life-saving medical attention after a crash or other emergency.\n\n-The Butterfly Effect Project: Give back to local young women in the Riverhead community by donating hygiene products.\n\nRogers Memorial Library<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\n\nDrop in any time throughout the day to participate in community service activities.\n\nSachem Public Library<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span>\n\nTrooponers\n11:00am-1:00pm\nStop in at the library and help cut and sort donated coupons for military families in need. No registration required.\n\nSayville Library<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\n\nThe library will be holding a Community Breakfast, Teen Car Wash, Pet Adoption Fair, Food Drive, and have Children’s Volunteer Stations.\n\nShelter Island Public Library<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\n\nThe Smithtown Library<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\n\n–Main Branch<\/a>\n\nCreate blankets for Project Linus.\n\n–Commack Branch<\/a>\n\nAnimal Shelter Drive\n\nTuesday, October 2 \u2022 7:00-8:00pm\n\nBe a part of the Great Give Back and help the library as they create an Animal Shelter Drive that will be at the Commack Branch from October 3-31. Teens will make posters of adoptable pets and decorate a donation box to collect animal food and gently used towels and blankets. During Fandom Fest we’ll be holding a food drive for the local food pantries. Please bring in non-perishable, non-expired food and place it in our donation box.\n\nHELP A CHILD IN NEED DISCOVER THE WORLD OF COLOR\n\nDuring our Fandom Fest we’ll be collecting new crayons for the non-profit organization\u00a0Color for Kids. <\/strong>Please place your donations in the donation box.\n\nFloral Park Public Library<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\n\nHead to the library on October 7th for a family Event creating\/donating bandanas to a local shelter for pet adoption!\n\nFranklin Square Public Library<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\n\nThere are many ways to Give Back at the library:\n\n-Decorate placemats to give to Meals on Wheels\n\n-Color bookmarks to give to seniors at the Plattduetsch Retirement Home\n\n-Collection of travel sized toiletries for the Mary Brennan Inn (October 1st-13th)\n\n-Purchase a bag of legos in the children’s room to “Build a Better World”. Use 20 legos to build on what other children had previously done. Money collected will be donated to the organization “Book Fairies”. (3 week program)\n\nFreeport Memorial Library<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\n\nFood for Fines – collecting food and personal items in lieu of fines owed. Collection boxes will be in the Library from September 22nd through October 13. Help make a child’s birthday special. Pajama Drive: October 1st – 31st<\/div>\n
The library will be holding a pajama drive for kids and teens in need. Help give children a warm goodnight by donating new pajamas. Pajamas for teens are especially needed in sizes up to Adult XL.\nOn October 13 we will be making cards and bookmarks to include with the donations.<\/div>\nLevittown Public Library<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\n\n1. The Children’s Department will host a food drive for the food pantry run by St. Bernard’s Social Ministry.\n\n2. The Young Adult Department will host a craft program for teens grades 6-12 to decorate fabric blocks to contribute to the Safe and Warm Quilt Initiative Campaign to benefit homeless youth.\n\n3. The Adult Department will partner with the Levittown Community Council to collect clothes and fabric for RewearAble (a recycling and job creation program committed to helping people with developmental disabilities pursue enviable lives through employment).\n\nLocust Valley Library<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\n\nCollection of food for Long Island Cares.\n\nLong Beach Public Library<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\n\nFood for Fines\n\nOctober 13th-19th\n\nIn connection with \u201cThe Great Give Back,\u201d 50 cents will be deducted from a patron\u2019s library fines for each non-perishable food item donat-ed at any of Long Beach Library\u2019s branches during the week of October 13-19. Donated food will be given to the Long Beach Soup Kitchen.\n\nRules & Regulations:\n\n-Perishable, expired, beyond sell by date, and homemade food items will not be accepted.\n-Both current and pre-existing fines are eligible for reduction.\n-While you can donate more items than you have fines (and we hope you do), a negative fine balance cannot be established.\n-Fines can only be reduced on items belonging to the Long Beach Li-brary (and its branches).
