Our two libraries have an ongoing collaboration with the local food pantry. Throughout the year we offer opportunities for the community to give donations at our libraries for the food pantry. This year their targeted requests are canned cream corn, Ritz crackers, and canned mixed fruit to supplement their Thanksgiving food offerings. Donations can be dropped off either at Aurora Free Library (370 Main Street, Aurora) or at Hazard Library Association (2487 State Route 34B, Poplar Ridge).

Items can be brought to the library during open hours (Monday-Thursday 9:30-8; Friday 9:30-5; Saturday 9:30-3) until November 2.

Port Byron Library is collecting socks for all age groups to be donated to The Unity House and Community Action Programs Cayuga\/Seneca, both in Auburn, NY. Socks are one of the most needed yet under donated items that folks facing critical hardships need.

Personal Care Item Collection for Moravia Hope Pantry & Collection Site for Stockings for Soldiers<\/strong>
October 19th – December 7th
Personal Care & Household Product Collection for Moravia Hope Food Pantry: Items include soap, detergent, paper towels, toilet paper, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shaving products, diapers, wipes, sanitary products, shampoo.
Stockings for Soldiers for Christ United Methodist Church of Locke and Moravia: Items include puzzle books, chewing gum, hard candies, drink packets, hot cocoa packets and playing cards.
Drop items off at the Powers Library during hours of operation. Appropriate boxes will be available for each cause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seneca Falls Library<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tag-a-long Teddies<\/strong>
September 19th – October 19th
We are holding a collection for North Seneca Ambulance Inc, our local ambulance and EMS agency. Before Covid, they would routinely give out stuffed animals to all of their pediatric patients, making them feel safer and calmer during a potentially traumatic experience. Sadly, they have not been able to run this program in 4 years. We are asking patrons to donate NEW stuffies so we can help North Seneca Ambulance bring this program back in 2024!

Costume and Winter Gear Exchange<\/strong>

We are partnering with our local PTO to provide a space where families can donate their gently used costumes (October 14 – 31) and winter gear (November – December). The area will be open any time during library hours for kids and families to donate and\/or take what they need.

No registration required, no participation limitations. Selection will depend on what is donated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Waterloo Library & Historical Society will be doing a New Toy Drive from October 1 to October 19 for the Seneca County Christmas Project.

The Weedsport Free Library is partnering up with Mrs. Simon’s Kind Kids Club to collect gently used kids Halloween Costumes to redistribute them to other families in our community. Costumes will be collected at the Weedsport Free Library and the Weedsport Elementary School between Oct 1st – 19th. Costumes will then be displayed, and families can come and pick out a costume to wear for Halloween between Oct 21st – 30th at the Weedsport Free Library.

Halloween Costume Swap<\/strong>

The Candor Free Library will be hosting a Halloween Costume Swap. Starting Tuesday, October 10th, people can drop off their clean, no-longer-needed, and\/or outgrown Halloween costumes and accessories. The items can either be left in our lobby or given directly to us during the hours we’re open (which are listed on our website). Donations can be brought in until Saturday, October 14th. We’ll get everything sorted and organized so people can start “shopping” on Tuesday, October 17th through Tuesday, October 24th. Please know that you don’t have to donate a costume to be able to take one and any remaining items will be donated to another organization that can use them. Thank you for supporting this community project.

During the week of October 22nd a name will be drawn and that person will win a $25 gift card to the business where they entered their card. There is no limit on how many times you can enter. Cortland Free Library will be participating in the Great Give Back by holding a collection drive for Cortland Loaves & Fishes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cortland Loaves & Fishes is a local organization that provides hospitality and meals to anyone in the community. Currently they are unable to serve in-person meals so instead are providing brown bag lunches every day to those that stop in – about 100 day. We will be collecting items for their lunch program.
Requested items include:
Zippered sandwich bags
#10 brown lunch bags (slightly larger than a regular lunch bag)
Plastic silverware
Napkins
Individual condiment packets including: salt & pepper, ketchup, mustard and
mayonnaise
Individually packaged snacks including: chips, cookies, granola bars, pudding, etc.
Individually packaged juice boxes or pouches<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Donations can be made during library hours, and will be collected through November 1st. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Giving to Our Neighbors at King Ferry Food Pantry<\/strong>

The Aurora Free Library and Hazard Library will be giving to our neighbors through donations of Thanksgiving foods to the King Ferry Food Pantry. As requested by the Food Pantry we are asking for donations specifically of Boxed Turkey Stuffing Mix, Shelf-Stable Turkey Gravy,
Small Canned Yams, and Cranberry Jelly. the pantry is also always in need of monetary donations to assist them in purchasing needed foods from the Food Bank. Donations can be dropped off at either library during their open hours between October 1-23.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lamont Memorial Free Library is collecting personal care items for the McGraw Community Food Pantry. A list of suggested donations can be found on the library’s website, www.lamontlibrary.org<\/a>. Donations can be made during library hours until Saturday, October 16th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Great Give Back – Winter Coats & Jackets Collection<\/strong>
The Lamont Memorial Free Library is collecting winter coats and jackets for all ages. Donations must be laundered and ready to wear. Donations can be made during library hours until October 16th. Coats collected during the Great Give Back will be given away on October 19th and 21st. Hat and mitten sets from our Knit and Crochet group will also be available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanksgiving Food Drive<\/strong>

The Great Library Give Back Knit-In<\/strong>

Every fall the Homer Elks and their Operation Warm program provide winter coats to those in need. As part of NY Libraries\u2019 Great Give Back, Phillips Free Library is teaming up with the Elks to collect new scarves, hats, and mittens for children and teens to be given away with the coats. Mark your calendars for Oct. 16th<\/sup> when we kick off our donation drive by hosting a \u201cKnit-In\u201d at the library for all local knitters and crocheters to make hats and mittens. If you want to provide hats and mittens to those in need, feel free to start your needles now! Watch for more details in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Knit-In: Hat and Mitten Drive<\/strong>

In conjunction with the Homer Elks Club, Phillips Free Library is collecting new hats, scarves and mittens for youth to be distributed with the coats as part of the Elks’ Operation Warm. We are having a Knit-In on 10\/16 for people to come and knit hats, mittens, and scarves, drop off items for donation, learn how to knit, and attending a spinning (as in spinning wheel) demonstration. Bring your warm coats, gloves, mittens or hats to the Waterloo Library & Historical Society, 31 E Williams St. Waterloo, from October 8th-October 16th during regular library hours. Items will be donated to Ashia’s closet in honor of Domestic Abuse Awareness Month and the Seneca County Coat Project help keep our community warm.
